The Ph. D. students of the Graduiertenkolleg constitute a graduate class. They are obliged to attend
the Graduate-Class Forum, the Graduate-Class Workshop, the Graduate-Class Courses and the seminar of their
reseach group. Depending on their previous knowledge they have to attend further lectures and seminars.
The Graduiertenkolleg also offers introductory and research-oriented lectures for undergraduates.
The Graduate-Class Forum is the central event of the Graduiertenkolleg. It is held once a week and comprises
three types of events:
In the Graduate-Class Club the Ph. D. students present their work.
Methods, results and problems as well as recent publications concerning their subjects
are discussed in a relaxed atmosphere.
In the Graduate-Class Lectures the participating scientists of the Graduiertenkolleg
give introductory talks on the basics and the ongoing research of their subject areas.
For the Graduate-Class Colloquium scientists from all over the world are invited to inform about
the newest developments in the research fields of the Graduiertenkolleg.
In addition, representatives from the industry and members of research organizations or foundations
The Graduate-Class Workshop will take place once a year in a hotel in the vicinity of Hamburg.
The Ph. D. students present the status quo of their work and discuss it with their colleagues.
The Graduate-Class Courses are intended to improve the general knowledge of the Ph. D. students
on the research fields of the Graduiertenkolleg as well as the soft skills.
Lectures and Seminars for Undergraduates and Graduates
The Graduiertenkolleg offers introductory and research-oriented lectures that are part of the
usual study programm of the Department of Physics at the University of Hamburg.
